(Dis)respect for Marriage Act

The 2015 Supreme Court ruling that same-sex couples have the right to marry was wrong biblically, biologically, and morally. However, the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” passed by the House last week and currently awaiting Senate vote would codify into federal law the national rejection of the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman. When Congress passes a law, it is much more than a ruling from nine justices. It is a mandate and statement of position by the entire nation through elected legislators. Let’s consider why this is such a critical Senate vote.

With the rapidly approaching conservative tsunami election that will flood the House and likely the Senate with Republican majorities, the Democrats are unhinged in their desperate attempts to get their dangerous, radical agenda into law before they lose their majority. The reversal of Roe v. Wade has brought on irrational behavior and numerous melt-downs among liberal leaders. They are warning their leftist base that all of their gains in transforming American traditions and values may be reversed by conservatives. They are sounding the alarm that the SCOTUS might reverse the gay marriage ruling as well. Oh that their fears would come true, but it is not likely.

Unfortunately, some Republicans are taking the bait. The House majority vote last week for same-sex marriage included 47 Republicans who turned their backs on the party’s principles and platform. Now, ten Senators would have to shun the same values for the Act to pass with 60 votes. Four Senators, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, and Ron Johnson are already committed to vote for it. Based on recent interviews, three more, Roy Blunt, Joni Ernst, and Thom Tillis are possible “yes” votes. That is getting awfully close to the ten Republican votes needed by the 50 Democrats. Even if you are confident your Senators will oppose the Act, don’t take anything for granted. The pressure is on. In any case, this is not the time for truly conservative Senators to quietly vote “no.” Now is the time for vocal opposition and passionate influence from Republicans in the Upper Chamber.

Passage and presidential signature of this Act would be another giant step away from God’s provision and blessing on America. Man’s artificial laws that pervert His natural laws place all of us at great risk. Please take five minutes to call or email each of your Senators urging them to not only vote “no” on this Act but to also to be loud and clear in their opposition to it.

AARP vs AMAC


If you are over 50, particularly if you are a member of AARP, you may want to rethink that organization. AARP was once a respectable voice for the interests of seniors. They worked in Washington, D.C. to advocate the causes of those in retirement or approaching retirement. They also offered many services for this age group. Unfortunately, they have become an arm of the liberal movement in America and have lost touch with their mainstream members. The conservative alternative, AMAC, is a popular competitor and worthy of your consideration.

If you have turned 50, no doubt you have received numerous appeals for you to join the American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP. For many years, they have lobbied Congress on issues related to this 50+ demographic. They offer appealing services and discounts for such things as travel, dining, insurance, health services, etc. I paid their reasonable fee and joined the organization as soon as I crossed that half-century mark. Then, in my early 60’s, I began to see some things in their literature and magazine that troubled me. They were leading the charge in promoting Obama’s policies. The further I looked, more was revealed about their liberal institutional values and principles. They are now trying to convince their members of President Biden’s failed agenda and are supporting much of today’s woke culture. They are leftist leaning in almost every aspect of their operations. Since most of us 50+ folks are conservatives, I have to conclude that AARP is not working for the majority of us.

I began hearing about the Association of Mature American Citizens, AMAC, about ten years ago. It was founded 13 years ago by a great patriot and Christian business man, the late Dan Weber, and has rapidly grown to over two million members. Its values and principles are conservative, and it advances both God and country. Rebecca Weber, daughter of Dan Weber, is the president and CEO of AMAC. She is a faithful, outspoken Christian as are AMAC’s top executives. AMAC has an active operations office in Washington, D.C. and administrative offices in New York and Florida. Its lobbyists work aggressively on Capitol Hill in the interests of the senior adult population. They are supporting conservative initiatives in general and conservative values of senior Americans in particular. They offer essentially the same services and discounts as AARP for about the same low annual fee. AMAC’s political action strategy includes a unique grass roots effort. An AMAC Delegate is appointed for each congressional district across America. I am the volunteer Delegate for Arkansas’ 4th District. Like other delegates, I am obligated to meet with my congressman, Bruce Westerman, periodically to discuss issues of importance to seniors and to promote AMAC’s position on those issues. This helps keep our country’s congressmen focused on their senior constituents. Delegates also work with their respective senators.

As AMAC Delegates, my wife, Linda, and I attend the annual delegate conference in Florida. It is repeatedly one of the most uplifting and refreshing events I ever participate in. It always advances my confidence in America’s traditional values and inspires me to stay in the fight for freedom and democracy.

AARP has been around for many years and has a large membership. Their sheer size gives them a significant advantage in Washington. Therefore, it is important that conservatives shift this lobbying power balance away from AARP and toward AMAC. So, if you are on the back side of 50, I urge you to go to AMAC’s website, https://amac.us, read all about it, and become a member. It’s an outstanding organization working on your behalf for everything you hold dear.

No Half-staff Flag in My Yard

My flag flying high

I will not lower my flag to half-staff for the president to make a political point. I have flown Old Glory in my back yard for years. During that time, I have dutifully, with compassion, lowered it to memorialize certain holidays, the deaths of great American leaders, and tragic losses of first responders. Only in the past two years have I twice refused to lower our nation’s symbol at the order of President Biden. Both refusals were because I believed the orders were wrongly and shamefully intended to serve the president’s political agenda.

The order to fly the flag at half-staff July 5-9 describes it as a mark of respect for the victims of the “senseless acts of gun violence” (my emphasis) at Highland Park, Illinois. The 4th of July shootings were a tragedy, and my heartfelt prayers go out to the families of the seven who died and to the thirty wounded. But the Chicago area has more than that murdered and wounded on most weekends. So far this year, Chicago has had 317 homicides. Nine Chicagoans were killed and 42 wounded by gun violence on a single weekend just five weeks ago. I don’t remember the White House lowering flags across our nation for those victims. Was this present order because Highland Park is a more affluent suburb of Chicago? Or was it because the holiday shooting made lots of headlines, and the Democrats jumped on the media frenzy to make it all about gun control? This way, millions of Americans will see the flags at half-staff, think Chicago shootings, and become more supportive of firearm restrictions. And the plan will probably succeed in its objective despite its specious conception.

The Democrats in Washington are so desperate to salvage any vestige of their radical leftist agenda that they will turn anything–court decisions, the economy, the environment, traditional values, guns–ANYTHING into a frantic life-or-death partisan reaction. Whatever it takes!

No, President Biden, I will not lower my American flag for your political agenda.
